Director's Statement
A good trip can take your troubles, put them to the side, and help put your head in a different place. And if you take one alone, there's the chance that you'll meet someone special. There's nothing better than that.

But- what if this were to actually happen to me? What would I do? And if I did meet someone special, what about the other people I met?

The story for the film came out of these questions, with one factor: alcohol can't be left out of the story. People can open their hearts, their minds, and truly relax with a drink, and who doesn't stop for a drink when they're on a journey? But what if it got out of control?

In Korea, there is an old saying that if someone drinks during the day time, they can not even recognize their parents. The effects of drinking are that much stronger during the day.

So, if the more you drink, the more you open your mind and follow your instinct, what happens? When you've been drunk, and you wake up the next day, there's usually only cruel reality waiting for you. And you sometimes have regrets, but since mankind is an animal full of forgetfulness, you drink, and become that animal once again.

That's the problem for Hyuk-jin, the main character in the film. He's like that. You may have sympathy for him, or you may not- certainly, some of what happens to him is an accident, but some of it is not, and it's important to let the film play until the end so you can make your own decision.

In the end, DAYTIME DRINKING is a simple story, about a trip, some women, and drinking. It's up to you to fill in the rest.
